Lyon started the season strongly with a hard-fought away win at Lens.
In terms of transfers, they only parted ways with Lacazette but strengthened the squad by bringing in talented Czech players Adam Karabec and Pavel Šulc.
Metz, on the other hand, finished third in Ligue 2 last season and secured promotion through the relegation playoff. They rely on a possession-based style of football, which proved effective in the second tier. However, in Ligue 1 it will be more challenging, as they are unlikely to dominate possession against most top-flight opponents.
On a positive note, Metz have managed to keep their core players together for the new campaign.
